A well treated Opinel will not lock up in any extended rainy weather. If treated right, an Opinel will stand up to extended submerging with only a bit of stiffening of the action. For pipe purposes, I think the 6 1/2 inch, blade tip to end of handle, 3 inch blade, is probably most of what you need, for storage, pipe bag, and having a blade the size that could be used to trimming a little cake (though I'm not a cake builder). They are moderately priced, so you could get two.

I was cutting through thick blackberry bushes recently with my Opinel No. 15 Slim, to clear a footprint for a ladder, so I could pick fruit from a tree.

Feb 8, 2017. #10. Easy fix. Mash a teaspoon or so of wax (hard floor wax works great, but candle wax would do) into the blade groove and melt it in with a hot air dryer* (*don't use your significant other's unless you get permission). Seals the wood and lubes the locking ring too.
